David Thomson

A Berwick & District Motor Club stalwart very sadly died on 1st July 2008 from illness. For those of you who knew David, it will be a great loss, to those of you who didn't he was a true clubman, a former Scottish Rally winner in 62 & 63 alongside his great friend Andrew Cowan and more importantly just agreat man who was somone we all looked up to but was so down to earth and still enjoying competing in club events up until this year.

The thoughts of everyone at Berwick & District Motor Club are with Davids family and close friends at this sad time.

Welcome to Berwick & District Motor Club. We are based in the Eastern Scottish Borders and North Northumberland where BDMC has an extensive programme of events throughout the year, with the Jim Clark Memorial Rally (co-promoted with our friends at Border Ecosse Car Club) as the premier event in the calendar. The only ‘Closed Roads’ rally on mainland Britain, the JCMR has been a round of the British Rally Championship since1999.

In recent years BDMC has built a reputation for promoting quality events that have proven popular with both competitors and spectators alike.
The Berwick Classic has consistently attracted increasing numbers from further a field each year, including a crew from Ireland for the 2004 event. With it’s relaxed atmosphere and mix of short but demanding tests and easy navigation it is not hard to understand why it has become a regular fixture in many competitors annual programme of events.

In 2004 The Johnston Trophy was reborn, this time as an introduction to all the basic elements that crews would encounter in a proper historic road rally: special tests, timing, navigation and regularities. This event has now built up a reputation of it's own with a range of exciting Tests and very simple navigation.

The Buglass Trophy is now a navigational rally but originated from the ‘good old days’ of selective road rallies and is a round of the TMSG Navigational Series.

However, it is not just rallying that we have on offer. There is the, now annual, Autocross at East Ord in September and usually three or four Autotests throughout the year. Last, but by no means least, there is the end of season shindig, the Annual Awards and Dinner Dance held in early December.
