Johnston Trophy Report by Stuart Bankier Scots crews crossed south of the Border and dominated the Johnston Trophy taking the top four positions. Archie Simmonds and Craig Wallace took top honours on the Johnston Trophy in their MG Midget only two seconds clear of Adrian Stewart and Tom Hynd in a Cooper S. Third and nearly a minute down were Jim Hendry and Graham Couser in their venerable TR3. Simmonds/Wallace established a clear 44 second lead after the thirteen special tests but nearly threw it all away with a wrong slot on the second regularity. Run over a 105 mile route in North Northumberland and Berwickshire the event comprised 13 very muddy and slippery tests on private roads before heading into two long regularities as darkness fell. Scott Clements and Jason Ferry chased the leaders all day in their Hillman Imp and were one of a number of crews to set some excellent regularity times to claw their way up the leader board before the finish. The Volvo Amazons of Stuart Bankier / Ed Barber and Ian Guthrie / Charlie Tynan also turned the tables on the more nimble cars with top three regularity results. Michael Deans and Guy Flannigan again dominated the modern category in their Colt heading home the Peugeot 205 Gti of Jeff and Graham Malthouse and the Nova of Neil Foster and Anthony Chrisp Overall Class Winners Modern Class Michael Deans Guy Flannigan Colt Visit
